It was Five years ago the ATP Masters 1000 series was revamped. The latest final in Miami between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray underlined why these matches really should be a best of five sets as they were before 2008.
Etiene De Villiers, former Executive Chairman of the ATP Tour, pushed to have the Masters finals reduced due to tiredness.
To be honest in my eyes that was a pretty bad excuse and it has made the events lose credibility, mainly the ATP 1000 events.
If De Villiers really wanted to make any changes to the tour he should have reduced the tour which would allow players to get a proper break but the ATP took the easy way out.
