Had the world number one capped off his incredible return to the top of tennis with victory at the O2, Nadal would have become only the second man after Andre Agassi  to win the career ‘Golden Slam’ .

This is all four Majors, the Olympics, and the end of season shoot out, or what it is now known as the World Tour Finals.

Rafa has been in blistering form lately and even though the hard court surface at the 02 is one of his least favorite to play on because of how slow the court is.

I still had him as slight favorite going into the match.

For Federer to move into the World tour final semi’s he had to beat the in form Argentine.

Federer came from a set and a break down to storm to a 6-4 6-7(2) 7-5 win that sets up a last four showdown with rival Rafael Nadal.

Federer still great to watch even when he loses

I know what you’re thinking, here’s another post where I go on about Federer and say how good he is etc. Well your dam right 🙂 This post links to a similar one I did earlier.

During Roger Federer’s greatly enjoyable defeat to Novak Djokovic in their opening World Tour Finals group match a couple of days ago there was a moment when it became very clear that the Swiss maestro must go on playing until his legs beg him to stop.

A set and 2-1 down in the second set, Federer pulled out a brilliant hold to love, dispatched with the imperious arrogance that we saw so often in his prime.

Federer Beaten by Djokovic in Paris

Djokovic who won his 16th straight match by rallying past Federer 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

He next plays top seed Rafael Nadal or defending champion David Ferrer. This was the 30th meeting between Djokovic and Federer but the first this year.

Djokovic struggled with his serve early in the match, making two straight double faults to hand Federer a break point. Federer then used a backhand volley to convert for a 2-1 lead.The 17-time Grand Slam champion saved four break points at 5-4 and took the first set when Djokovic hit a backhand return long.

Federer, who won the Paris Masters two years ago, then capitalized on an unforced error from Djokovic to break the Serb in the opening game of the second set.
